A meaningful gift to give this Christmas

By

With Christmas just around the bend, Monkeybiz is an organization that you need to hear about. Through them, disadvantaged artists from South Africa create beautifully beaded creatures and are able to provide for their families. A few weeks ago, my three-year-old and I attended a very colorful, creative, inspiring, expensive and delicious sale event held over two days at one of the Wychwood Barn studios.

Style maven Franco Mirabelli answers all your fashion questions in his PostCity.com blog. This week’s questions: What is your favourite accessory to add to an LBD to make it stand out? What is the best outfit to wear with thigh-high boots? How much accessorizing is too much?

Luxurious casual clothing at the Distillery

By

I find myself wandering through Lileo every year in early December. Actually, I think I first discovered the boutique around that time five years ago. I have a general love for the Distillery District, where Lileo is located. It’s an area of Toronto where I get lost in my thoughts, and drift back to a time that is filled with wonder. I love wandering the cobble paths that weave between the old buildings, invariably popping into the 7000 square foot space that is Lileo along my travels.

Get a hot holiday dress at Forest Hill's Kitsch

By

Whether you’re looking for a dress with a load of frills or a versatile staple, Kitsch is a must see on your hunt for the perfect holiday dress! Although Kitsch is known in the spring for having beautiful prom gowns, many of the dresses in the Holiday Collection are quite sophisticated and suit a wider age range. I was especially impressed by the colour options available at Kitsch.

Indulge your shopping fantasies at Girl Friday

By

Here’s the thing about Girl Friday… women LOVE this store! Girl Friday owner Rebecca Nixon runs two boutiques in Toronto, and designs the house-branded clothing line sold in boutiques across Canada. The designs are classic, easy-to-wear, and affordable. In addition to their house line, Girl Friday carries casually chic designs like Soia and Kyo coats from Montreal, Dish jeans from Vancouver, and Akiko’s beautiful silk blouses from L.A.

The biggest trend for fall: Biker jackets

By

This fall I went to Paris and the biggest trend in terms of outerwear jackets was biker jackets. They were all over the catwalks for fall in collections by the biggest names, done in black wool with silver zipper details. My interpretation of the biker jacket is called the veltroni jacket. It’s done in a fine black wool coating with silver zipper details.

All in a day's work: Fashion shoot with the kids

By

We are shooting the Hudson’s Bay Company’s Olympic wear and because my little guy is exactly that — little — nothing fits him very well and so for his picture he is stripped of his diaper. Turns out he knows how to steal the show just as well as his big sister.

Macy's north? What's old becomes new again

By

As you know from my previous blogs, I could spend hours in a boutique like Ewanika or Lilliput Hats, trying on an original silk shirtdress or a funky new fedora. But, due to my affinity for small shops, I have to admit I haven’t been to The Bay for more than a pair of tights in years. Still, there has been so much buzz surrounding The Bay and it’s redesigned store on Queen Street that I decided I should go and check it out.

By

I really love the fall season, watching as women slowly come out of their summer clothes and start to pile on the layers. From my perspective as a designer, here’s a list of six things to be on the lookout for while shopping to update your wardrobes this season.
