Ex-Drake chef Anthony Rose wants to open a bunch of new Toronto restaurants

By

Word has it that ex-Drake chef Anthony Rose has some big plans up his sleeve. The ambitious chef-cum–entrepreneur plans to open not one, not two, but three new Toronto eateries in the next two years under the banner of his new restaurant group Rose and Sons. While the exact concept behind the new ventures has yet to be revealed, Rose is emphatic that simple food and a good atmosphere will be the name of the game in his upcoming resto trifecta.

Krispy Kreme wants to take Toronto by storm — again

By

Perhaps LL Cool J said it best: “Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years.” The sentiment holds true for Krispy Kreme, particularly regarding its position in the Toronto market. This is what La Carnita’s famous tacos look like

La Carnita drove Toronto totally nuts as a pop-up taco shop, and it finally opened a permanent location on College Street earlier this month. Liberty Village is getting a quesadilla café

By

Toronto is obsessed with tacos these days. That means tortillas have been getting thrown in the limelight too, and later this month, the flatbread will be getting some serious treatment in Liberty Village. Taking over the old Liberty Belle Bistro space is Maizal Quesadilla Cafe, an upcoming takeout-oriented restaurant that focuses on corn and the traditional Mexican dishes derived from it — tortillas in particular. And tacos won’t be on the menu.

Table Talk: Joanne Kates reviews Gusto 101

By lindsaylow

I don’t think Conrad Black is dining at Gusto 101. For one thing, they don’t take reservations after 6 p.m., and for another, His Lordship might not like the noise. It might remind him too much of where he spent his last couple of years. Oh, and for another thing, most of the good stuff … Continued

Q&A: Michael Stadtländer on the mega-quarry, locavorism and his visionary new undertaking, The Singhampton Project

By

Nearly two decades ago, Michael Stadtländer opened up Eigensinn Farm and set to work establishing his 100-acre Singhampton outpost as one of the premier dining spots in the country, all the while spearheading the local-food movement with his ready-made environmental ethic. At Eigensinn, Stadtländer shocked traditional foodies by growing his own food, making his own chairs and tables, crafting his own outdoor ovens and grills and featuring the bounty of local growers — call it fine-dining DIY.
