Table Talk: Joanne Kates reviews Richmond Station

By lindsaylow

Richmond Station is like the best of the British gastropubs — cozy, friendly, and the food is robust and honest, without gewgaws and highfalutin constructions and garnishes. It’s normal, not food as architecture or artwork. And unlike at most of our hot new places, the people in charge actually seem to care about their guests’ … Continued

Table Talk: Joanne Kates reviews Patria

By lindsaylow

Editor’s note: Patria now has exterior signage, which it did not have at the time that this article was written. How do you make something cool? Restaurants play the no sign game. If it has no sign, only cool people know where it is. Which is why we walk by Patria three times before asking … Continued

Table Talk: Joanne Kates reviews JaBistro

By lindsaylow

My sushi fatigue is so much better now. Sushi fatigue is when it all tastes the same and nothing much jumps out, flavour-wise. It’s when raw salmon and tuna start feeling boring. The thrill was gone. Table Talk: Joanne Kates reviews Café Boulud

By lindsaylow

When a New York superchef like Daniel Boulud comes to Toronto, a foodie has to go. You can’t just ignore it. Dammit, the Emperor is back and he’s in his boxers again. I have been wanting (dare I say pining) to go to David Chang’s Momofuku Noodle Bar in New York for years. So of course, I, like every other foodie in Toronto, was ecstatic when Chang opened Momofuku Toronto on University Avenue. Who doesn’t want … Continued

Table Talk: Joanne Kates reviews Stack

By lindsaylow

Uptown’s answer to Roncy’s Barque Smokehouse … isn’t. Funny (to me) how popular Stack became the second it opened in the spring. So don’t show up without a reservation at prime time unless you want to wait. But for what? The quality of the food is pathetically uneven, and the service is … well, let’s … Continued

The Burger’s Priest signs a deal on a west-end location

By

Toronto’s most buzz-worthy burger joint is at it again with the announcement that a new west-end location of The Burger’s Priest could possibly be open by the end of this year. Owner Shant Mardirosian tells us that he has signed a deal on a new location in the King and Spadina area, but still has to look into permit issues to make sure that the city will allow him to build a restaurant in that spot.
