We’ve gotten so used to hearing about indie coffee shops opening up downtown that it just doesn’t seem right to be reporting the opposite, but its true: a few months after setting up shop in Design Republic, Queen West’s incarnation of Lit Espresso Bar closed down with next to no warning on Friday.
At the Centre for Inquiry’s “The Great Extraterrestrial Debate” at U of T last Friday, Dr. Seth Shostak, senior astronomer at the SETI Institute (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) told us what to expect when we finally encounter E.T., which he wagers a cup of “Tim, what is it, Hortons coffee” will happen in the next few decades.
Toronto’s Twitter-mill was on overdrive this morning when rumours surfaced that David Chang, chef and owner of New York’s Momofuku restaurant group, could be making his way to Toronto by 2012. Enter John Allan’s men’s grooming club, a concept meant to take the haircut beyond the barbershop. With the success of his Chicago and New York City shops, Allan recently opened a Toronto location at The Bay on Queen Street.
New York’s celebrated culinary master David Chang, chef and owner of the popular Momofuku restaurant group, including the Michelin-starred Momofuku Ko, may be coming to Toronto. The Twitterverse was rife with rumours this morning, ignited by a forum posting that claimed Toronto’s upcoming Shangri-La Hotel had “landed” David Chang. This morning, Chang tweeted the following cryptic, though optimism-inducing, message: “hello southern ontario … late late 2012ish?”
