After years of fashion passion and world traveling, childhood BFFs Angela Pastor and Julie Buczkowski are living their dream: they’re opening up a clothing boutique together. Starting this fall, the two will open Fitzroy Boutique as a seasonal pop-up shop that focuses on affordable, exclusive and international styles.

Word11, the world’s first ever 24-hour blogging festival, is happening at the Center for Social Innovation (CSI) on Aug. 27.
The AGO’s Abstract Expressionist New York exhibit is coming to an end on Sept. 4, so this is your last chance to soak up the splatter and spill of the abstract expressionist movement before the paintings return to their rightful home in New York’s Museum of Modern Art. The exhibit’s got some big names: Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Franz Kline — names which, if you care about art at all, you already either love or hate. Probably hate.
This is a great time for a pink sparkling wine. Actually, the colour is more of what the French call “eye of the partridge.” A delicious, light-bodied bubbly, with a nose of raspberries and violets and a taste that’s dry, with raspberry and tobacco leaf flavours. A very versatile food wine as well as an excellent aperitif. Well-priced when you consider rosé champagne. Food match: cold salmon, chicken salad.
It was just last month that we reported on the closure of Forest Hill’s longstanding China House, and now Toronto is set to lose yet another Chinese food institution. Lai Toh Heen, uptown’s sibling restaurant to the Metropolitan Hotel’s much-lauded Lai Wah Heen, will be closing on Sept. 18 after five years in business.
Even though the dust has barely settled on Toronto’s summer of indie theatre festivals, theatre artists are already gearing up for next year (Fringe applications will be available in a month).
