Theatre Review: Aladdin

By

The latest Mirvish musical, Aladdin, screams Disney: the good, the bad and the ugly. Surely a delight for children, this production is good enough to entertain parents and other adults, as well.

Wanted: this cozy jacquard sweater from Patrik Ervell

Most heterosexual women (and certain discerning gentlemen) have, at some point during their dating and romancing years, probably felt the desire to dress their boyfriends/life partners up like a doll. If not, you are obviously lying to yourselves, or are just blessed with a sartorially-gifted significant other who knows the difference between wingtips and oxfords.

Tony Aspler’s Weekly Wine Pick: a remarkable red for an affordable price

By

Paso Robles is making some rich, full-bodied red wines like this well-priced Cab. Wine grapes were introduced here in 1797 by the Spanish conquistadors and Franciscan missionaries. Drink This: a gin and tonic from Nota Bene

By

Bourbon is dead. Well, at least that’s what the folks over at Nota Bene think. The new cocktail menu at the upscale Italian eatery keeps the focus trained on gin, which owner Yannick Bigourdan became smitten with while on a recent tour of Spain. Gin and tonics ($17) are the name of the game but here, the beverages have a bit of a Choose Your Own Adventure lean.

Theatre Review: The Sacrifice Zone

By

If David Suzuki and Tim Flannery collaborated with Cirque de Soleil and the Fifth Estate, they might come up with something like Theatre Gargantua’s new drama The Sacrifice Zone, premiering now at Factory Studio Theatre until November 30.
