What I Wore: a summery wrap dress from Topshop

By

The heat in Toronto right now is reminiscent of what one would normally encounter in a tropical jungle. Naturally, my wardrobe solution to this is to wear what I like to call my “Tarzan” dress. With its jagged hem and all-over leaf print, my reasoning behind its nickname should be quite obvious.

Bridge + Bardot brings hip threads to the Dundas and Ossington ’hood

By

After a series of seasonal pop-ups around town, Bridge + Bardot opted to pop-up for good at Dundas and Ossington. The work of Rose Broadbent and sisters Gurjeet and Gagan Bassi, the strip’s latest haunt offers up more of what the ’hood does best: vintage and pre-owned threads. Joined by goods from local labels such as Muttonhead, Ka’Kia and Cuchara, the gals have plenty of picks for the urban clotheshorse.

Grab of the Week: a bejeweled iPhone case for your inner Cher Horowitz

By

Ever since we first saw the movie Clueless, we’ve studied the outfits of Cher Horowitz and wondered how we could emulate each and every one of them. For nearly two decades, we (like most girls who grew up in the ’90s) have wondered: where can we get a dress that looks like underwear too? Do I look like a farmer in these clothes?

Elegance and style reign supreme at the 60 Years of Designing the Ballet gala

By

Last night we hit up the opening gala for the 60 Years of Designing the Ballet exhibit. Held at the Design Exchange, attendees were offered an in-depth look at the design work of The National Ballet of Canada, ranging from exquisite Swan Lake tutus to pieces plucked from the set of The Nutcracker. Curated by Caroline O’Brien, the peek into the collection arrived on the dawn of the National Ballet’s 60th birthday.

What I Wore: an open-backed, totally summery LBD

By

No matter how hard I try, I can never resist a little black dress. Why would I? It’s one of the most classic items to have in your closet, and currently, these dresses take up a quarter of the space in my own. An LBD can work for any person, season or event (yes, even a summer wedding).

Trinity Tuck shop brings everything park-goers could want (and more) to the Bellwoods ’hood

By

Now that Toronto’s dalliance with summer is getting hot ‘n’ heavy, down time at the park is more alluring than ever. At Trinity Bellwoods, park-goers can duck into Trinity Tuck Shop, the work of Kealan Sullivan and designers Dylan Davies and Ashley Rowe. The retro pop-up houses everything from candy-coloured clothes to jars of, well, candy — with Augie’s Gourmet Ice Pops and gelato from Boreal Gelato Company to boot.

Grab of the Week: a friendship bracelet with a cause

By

Talking about the “birds and the bees” isn’t normally associated with saving the planet, but this time around it is. Did you know that the value of pollinators — such as bees, butterflies and hummingbirds — to Canadian food crops is around $1.2 billion per year? These are species that help our crops grow, and many of them, especially bees, are diminishing globally at an alarming rate.

What I Wore: Jessica Mary Clayton, Rodebjer and Giancarlo Paoli for a chic office look

By

Despite my love for tailoring, dressing “for the office” can still be a bit of a challenge. Being a freelancer, by “for the office” I of course mean dressing appropriately for a meeting, wherever that might take place. What I find tricky is dressing professionally while still allowing my personal style to shine through, as it can be so easy to get lost in a sea of conservative.
