One of the most distinctive and popular indie artists of the last decade, Phoebe Bridgers, has added a second Toronto date to her world tour that comes with a lo-fi vibe and a strict no phones policy.
The added show at Scotiabank Arena on Oct. 2 follows a quick sell-out of presale sign-ups for the originally announced Oct. 1 date. This is happening with no advertising beyond a post on Bridgers’ social media account, in which she writes: “I’m going on tour no phones.” This was followed up a couple days later with another post: “added more shows.”
Bridgers has been silent across social media for a couple of years. One could assume she has been working on new music, but she’s also been acting, including her first feature film role in the movie Primetime starring Robert Pattinson.
While Bridgers has not released a solo album since 2020’s Punisher, she has remained a dominant presence in contemporary indie music through collaborations, including Boygenius—whose 2023 album The Record earned widespread acclaim and multiple Grammy Awards—and Better Oblivion Community Center.
The artist recently started putting on unannounced pop-up performances featuring new music across the U.S. at small venues, announced with posters on lamp posts, cash at the door, like in the olden times. No phones. Nothing.
Then, a surprise and quickly sold-out show at Madison Square Garden with tickets for a $1.
It is so Phoebe.
Like the small shows, Bridgers’ new tour has a “phone-free” format, and strict protocols around ticketing. The North American leg includes openers Alex G, with Isaac Wood joining for European dates later in the year. Each ticket sold in North America will also contribute $1 to RAINN, adding a charitable component to what is already one of the most in-demand indie tours in recent memory.
